Undergraduate Health Policy Certificate

For students matriculating in Fall 2003 or later, the requirements are identical except that a required introductory course has substituted for one of the required elective courses. Appropriate courses may come from the list given below or may include other courses as approved by the director. Such classes may include: courses listed at The Terry Sanford Institute's Graduate Program site, new courses, special topics courses, independent study, and, under special circumstances, courses offered through the UNC School of Public Health.*

N
o more than three of the six courses taken to satisfy the requirements of the certificate may originate in a single department or program. Note the following rules apply to all certificate programs at Duke and cannot be waived by the director under any circumstance:

  • Students electing to satisfy the requirements of a certificate program may use for that purpose no more than two courses that are also used to satisfy the requirements of a major, minor, or other certificate programs being pursued. That is, one may note overlap 2 courses in your major and another 2 courses in a minor. The total number of overlapping courses across all majors/minors/certificates being pursued may not exceed two.
  • At least four of the courses used for a certificate must be 100-level or above.
  • At least half the courses taken to satisfy a certificate must be taken at Duke.

*Subject to regulations governing inter-institutional course registration. Note that the School of Public Health semesters and daily schedules differ from those of Arts and Sciences. Interested students should check to find the semester schedule and exact course times.

Students wishing to take a course at UNC-CH should complete an Inter-Institutional Registration Form obtained from the home institution. Duke is part of the North Carolina institutions of higher learning Inter-Institution Program. Each course appears on the student's record as if the course was taken at Duke and becomes part of the permanent record.

Please see http://registrar.duke.edu/registrar/iimain.html for further information regarding inter-institutional registration regulations and procedures. Also, further information is available at: www.pubpol.duke.edu/graduate/mpp/courses/
