A variety of exciting opportunities are available for undergraduates and graduates in the fields of Health Policy and Global Health at Duke University.

Undergraduate Student Opportunities

Educational Opportunities:
Certificate programs are interdisciplinary minors that students may pursue. Through the Center for Health Policy, two certificates are available for undergraduates: Health Policy and Global Health. Certificates, like minors, require students to complete 6 courses during their undergraduate career. More information on these certificates can be found by following the links.

Internships and Job Opportunities:
A variety of internship and job opportunities exist for students at the Center for Health Policy. During the school year, various professors and researchers hire Research Assistants. For a list of current RA openings, please check our employment page.

The Health Inequalities Program (within the Center for Health Policy) offers an internship for eligible Duke students for 9 weeks in the summer. Other opportunities exist for summer internships outside of Duke University. For students pursuing the Global Health Certificate, please refer to that website for a list of potential internships that will fulfill your requirements.

GSK Student Research Grant 2007:
The GlaxoSmithKline Foundation has awarded the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University a grant to bring the two institutions together to share resources and ideas in the area of global health. Both Duke and UNC are committed to the development of global health research, curricula, and capacity building both at home and in international training programs in Tanzania and Malawi, respectively. This grant is designed to foster the development of multidisciplinary research projects and partnerships in global health between the two universities. Funds have been designated to support student global health research in the form of seed grants. The grants will be awarded based on the soundness of the research proposal and how well it demonstrates the principles of the larger grant. Campus Organizations:

Jim Bernstein Health Policy Scholars Program
The Jim Bernstein Health Policy Scholars are selected each year from among academically qualified rising Duke juniors committed to 1) serving as assistant editor for the NC Health Policy Gateway web portal during their junior year; 2) working a summer internship in the NC Office of Research, Demonstrations and Rural Health (ORDRH) on a project related to meeting the needs of the uninsured; and 3) writing a senior honors thesis on that same topic.
